Alone, all by myself I caught the d train on W. 4th st. {also the Q and the N go out there] at 7 to head out to the fest. The train is packed for almost the whole ride. I get off at stillwell ave. [coney island] follow the signs to Surf Ave. and take a left and cross the street to the ocean side. It's down about an ave. block right past the bumper cars. The moon was just coming out on a desolate surf ave. as I had a beer at the freak bar [part of the sideshow] where I was warmly greeted by Sandy, who's film AMERICAN SCARY which was opening the fest I had met in Kansas. I settled in to catch the end of the doc which detailed the regional tv phenomnen of Creature Feature horror hosts. They went all around the country, but the epicenter for horror hosts was Cleveland Ohio. Goulardi, the ghoul and son of ghoul- they had great footage of early tv mayhem - the ghoul rummaging through a dumpster and finding thefilm reels of the film he shows, "it's a real stinker" After the film it's on to the party which I attend by myself. the party is hosted by Fred the great Fredini - his act was so impressive all this great stuff with fire that had you scratching your head, what? and then sword swallowing which I still don't know how he did it, but he had a very enthusiastic crowd of coneys and film makers. The party was great with mini cheeseburgers, hot dog and an amazing amount of illegal substances. Rob Leddy festival director was holding court on the smoking balconey overlooking the deserted surf ave.. He's got really high hopes for the fest this year, and for the 2nd time in one night I was greeted warmly. Rob, of course enquired if JULIE ATLAS MUZ would be attending her screenings, I of course repliied were only screening once [sat. 9PM], no, he said she's in two other films. Sad to say but I had to inform him, that no, JULIE ATLAS MUZ would not be
attending. Speaking of Ms. Muz I did notice there was a plethora of MS. CONEY ISLANDS in attendance at the party. How many are there?
The party goes a little fuzzy after the wonderful burlesque performance - there was a guest of honor [brooklyn young guy, I think he's been on the wire, though he was inbetween two fabulous leggy gals. [pix to come], but I do recall a lack of taxi cabs after the party ended and riding the Q train back to the city. But it was well worth the trip, the last time to see the real coney.
